Have you been thinking to yourself, it’s time to get out and have some fun and make some changes? We have, too! In 2020 we didn’t get to do too much with family, friends, or even maybe on our own like we normally would. Here we’ve put together a list of things you can do in 2021 to make it a positive year in your life.
- Get Organized
Whether you are already meticulous or live within organized chaos, it is always good to take time weekly, monthly, and quarterly to reorganize your workspace, go through the mail, kitchen, and any other part of your life that needs a little organizing. It will prompt a sense of clarity and create an environment that is easier to work and live in.
- Donate
Speaking of getting organized, it may not be spring anymore, but take some time to do a little “spring cleaning” in the second half of this year. Go through clothes, appliances, and other belongings which are still in great condition that you may not have used in the last 6 months and donate them. You will not only clear up some counter space and create room in your closet, but you will also be helping out people who are in need of these items.
- Random Acts Of Kindness
Paying it forward and doing something nice doesn’t have to be a big elaborate act. Taking the time to help a friend, a family member, or perhaps a stranger goes a long way. If a friend just had a baby, bring them some food, if a family member needs a ride to work, be the one to take them, or if you see someone lost and in need of directions, give them some guidance. These are just a few examples of a random act of kindness.
- Make A New Friend
It can be hard to make new friends, especially as adults, and more so if you are introverted, shy, or a combination of both. This shouldn’t stop you from starting new friendships, however. You can make new friends through current friends, join a group based on a passion or major interest you have, or befriend a coworker.
Embrace new friendships because you might be meeting someone who is going to be a lifelong friend.
- Connect With Old Friends And Extended Family
In 2020 it may have been difficult for you to talk to, let alone see, your friends and family members outside of those whom you live with. Now is the time to reconnect with them! Make sure to carve out time to re-establish these connections because having these people in your life who you likely missed dearly will do your heart good.
- Bake Something New
Baking was big in 2020, if you happened to be one of the many people who learned or mastered baking last year, keep at it! If you didn’t attempt baking during quarantine, there’s no reason not to try now. Search for a dessert or a type of bread you’ve been craving and instead of looking for a premade version, treat yourself to a homemade delicacy.
- Create Some Art For Your Home
Art soothes the soul in so many ways. Create art for your home, and you’ll see it can help any anxieties you might be experiencing. You will also feel a sense of accomplishment having a finished piece to be proud of and, with that, get a boost in your self-esteem. Try your hand at a craft or paint with friends, regardless of what you do just make sure you enjoy it.
- Have A Date Night
Maybe you’ve met someone, and it’s time to set up a date, or you might just be in need of a girl/guy night with your friends. Get out and have fun or stay in and create the perfect at-home evening. We all need quality time with someone here and there, make sure to do so with the people that matter most to you. Really engage with them; it is just what the doctor ordered.
- Redecorate Your Living Space
You were probably home a lot last year and feel like you need a visual change. Redecorating can do the trick to make the space you spend the most time in feel fresh. Whether that is buying a new decorative staple piece or moving your furniture around —give your room, office, or the entire house a transformation.
- Try Food You’ve Never Had Before
So many restaurants were hurting last year, now is a great opportunity to give them a bit of business by going to a place you’ve never been to and trying something new. It could simply be having ingredients you’ve never had before or being a bit more adventurous and trying cuisine from a different culture. Experimenting with different types of foods and flavors can be such a phenomenal experience.
- Discover An Old Or New Hobby
Did you have to stop partaking in your favorite hobby in the last year or maybe even longer? Make 2021 the year you get started back on it. You’ve probably missed hobbies you had to put on hold. Consider starting them up again as a form of self-care. You might, on the other hand, be thinking about taking on a new hobby. Don’t think about it too much, start today, you won’t regret doing something for yourself.
- Learn New Skills
In the same vein as starting a new hobby, try learning a new skill or two. Have you always wanted to learn to do something specific, but never tried your hand at it? Carve out time in your life to accomplish this goal.
- Learn A New Language
Much like learning a new skill, learning a new language can be a goal you’ve always had. It is never too late to pursue learning a foreign language. You can find an online class, private tutor, or commit to an app to learn. If you feel inspired to learn a new language you should use that energy to accomplish this goal.
- Exercise
Wanting to exercise and actually doing it are two very different things. It can be hard to get started, but once you do there is great satisfaction in it. Not only do you start to see changes in your body, but you also see changes in your energy and state of mind. Find yourself a gym, work out at home, or join a workout group, it will create a positive difference in your life.
- Meditate
Take a few minutes in your day to quiet your mind. Meditating helps you regain focus and stability. When you meditate you give your mind and body much-needed balance. Create this pattern in your life and you will see positive changes. If you’ve never meditated or once did but stopped, be sure to establish meditation as a regular habit.
- Become A Plant Parent
Plants give your home life. Go to your local home goods store or nursery and invest in flowers or plants. Even if you don’t think you have a green thumb, you might surprise yourself.
- Visit New Places
Travel! You can go to a far-off place you’ve always wanted to visit or within your own state. There is so much of the world to see at home and abroad. Experiencing new places and cultures can be one of the most transformative times in your life.
- Make Time To Read
Life can get busy with work and family responsibilities. You may have been an avid reader or never been much of a reader, in this second half of 2021 create the time and space to pick up a new book and lose yourself in it.
- Start A Side Hustle
You could have a lucrative career or a job you don’t love, but have a passion for something outside of what you already do. Use the passion to start a side hustle where you can embrace your objectives outside of your 9 to 5.
- Create A Budget
It is easy to overspend by practicing retail therapy or if you are not used to tracking your income versus your spending. Make it a point in 2021 to create a budget and gain control of your finances. Your wallet will thank you and you will also find that you will be far less stressed about money when you budget.
- Get Yourself Out of Debt
Since we talked about budgeting, we’d be remiss in not mentioning getting out of debt. There is nothing like paying off loans, credit cards, and any other debt you may have acquired.
Make 2021 a Year of Successes
Be sure that 2021 is better than 2020 by spending more time outside, making memories that will stay with you for a lifetime, practicing self-care, and remembering to be proud of yourself for surviving a difficult year. Never forget to give yourself the credit you warrant, you are resilient and deserve to enjoy your life. Live the life you want to live and don’t just long for it.
